They’re Back! More Golden Girls Giggles

Golden Girls: The lost episodes number VI by David Cerda, is currently in the spotlight at the O’Connor & Company theater.

Being greeted by songs of that period – 1980’s – brought back wonderful memories. The theme song from “Bewitched” “Love American Style,” and “The Nanny” just to mention a few.

Todd Warfield wore three different hats for this production Director, Scenic Designer and Costume Designer along with Joey Bucheker. Jay Marks was in charge of the lighting design. The costumes fit each character’s personality to a tee. The set and the lighting design were non-intrusive, just what was needed to allow the ladies to take control of the stage.

The Golden Girls sitcom started in 1985 and ran on the air for seven seasons. Overview: four mature women live together in Miami and experience the joys and anguish of their golden years. The series received a variety of awards 68 Emmys ( with 11 wins), 21 Golden globe ( with four wins) just to mention a very few and are still being viewed with reruns around the world.

It takes a lot of gumption to take on characters so widely known and loved. But that’s what’s happening on stage at O’Connor & Company. For courageous actors have superlatively mastered their character.

Michael Seitz (Dorothy) not only has her phrasing but also her voice pattern. Joey Bucheker (Rose) couldn’t look any more bewildered. Michael “BeBe” Blasdell (Blanche) was mesmerizing. Matt Rittler (Sophia) physical traits were right on target.

I love when actors volunteer to play more than one role. Especially when there are a lot of lines involved. I take my hat off to Bryan Sharry, Corey Bieber, Robert McKnight, Len Mendez, David Haefner, Jacob Fleur and Michael Wells: you didn’t miss a beat!!

On top of all this talent there’s audience participation. Well, what can I say. I haven’t had that much fun in a long time. Thank you for giving us a much needed laugh.
