If you are pondering over activities for this holiday season, look no further than the Theatre of Youth’s production of Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!
Annette Daniels Taylor’s direction utilized different levels and speeds of motion, a crafty way of holding the attention of the youngest as well as the sleepiest in the audience. It worked like a charm.
Andrew Machovec’s scenic design complemented the story by being obvious but understated.
What can I say about the master of his craft, Ken Shaw. Costumes designed to the most minute detail.
Camille’s props were as much fun to look at as they were functional.
The banter between Ashleigh Chrisena Ricci (Junie B. Jones) and Anika Pace (May, her biggest antagonist) reminded me of a love-hate relationship and was superlatively executed. The rest of the cast were very energetic and character portrayals were true to life and enjoyable.
To the production staff. What happens on stage is the result of what happens off stage. You have my admiration!
