“Some Like It Hot” is a fun, carefree, evening of theatre. A simple story – a pair of show business brothers witness a mob hit, and disguise themselves as women musicians to high tail it to Mexico. Filled with toe-tapping songs, beautiful costumes, flamboyant dance numbers, and some of the best slapstick comedy in recent years, “Some Like It Hot” is must see entertainment.

Matt Loehr who plays Joe/Josephine in this touring production is hilarious. His quick wit, facial expressions, physical comedy, and vocal prowess make him perfect for this role. While Joe is a ladies man, Josephine brings out the sensible personality in Joe which allows him to become his true self and tell Sugar his true feelings for her. He is a pleasure to watch.

Tavis Kordell portrays both Jerry and Daphne in this production. Kordell brings great authenticity and truth to the character. Daphne’s inner struggle of feeling comfortable with the person she is is truly evident in his performance. Together with Loehr, the two share wonderful chemistry on stage.

Leandra Ellis-Gatson’s Sugar is perfect. Her voice rings through the theatre everytime she delivers a song. She brings heart to this zany comedy, and is a crowd favorite. Again, this woman can belt!

Tarra Conner Jones is wonderful as Sweet Sue. She’s got great comedic timing and really brings the comedy to life in this piece.

Edward Juvier is hilarious as Osgood, the ‘poor little millionaire.’ Juvier’s performance is a masterclass in comedy.

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) supply the music and lyrics to this piece. They do a wonderful job with the music – giving it that prohibition era sound that you want for a story of this caliber. Your feet don’t stop tapping from start to finish.

Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs a masterpiece. You don’t want to miss it.

Running Time: 2 Hours 30 Minutes with a 20-Minute intermission.

“Some Like It Hott” runs until September 29, 2024 and is presented at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre. For more information, click here.
